The children of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District elementary schools received approximately 2500 books this year due to the generous support of donations and the community donating books to our 2009 Book Drive. Donations were received in the memory of Cris Copren honoring his life and love of learning.
This year the Mosiman Foundation for Literacy, Health and Wellness was able to distribute summer reading books to six elementary schools; Ohlone, Radcliff, Hall District, Amesti, Anne Soldo and Landmark.
Grants were received from Driscoll's Charitable Fund and Target. These grants assisted with the purchase of new books. A monetary contribution was received from State Farm Ins. (Alese Greene). Book drop locations were at Monte Vista Christian School, Green Valley Christian School, Baskin Robbins, Gold's Gym, Spa Fitness, Nob Hill Food, 1st National Bank and Moreland Notre Dame. Services of material, time and media and were provided by Pajaro Valley Printing and Cirquel Design and the Register Pajaronian.
Our books, along with the Reading is Fundamental program, are often the only books that many children get to keep at home and share with their parents and siblings. Our goal is to continue providing children ages 5 – 10 with books in an effort to acknowledge the importance of reading for fun and entertainment! Younger children are more likely than others to link reading to future success. We encourage parents to make books a part of regular playtime by exploring the stories, themes or characters with craft activities and puppets.
Again, our many thanks to the community and hope we can count on your support again next year as we will be planning our 2010 event! Please visit our website often at www.mosimanfoundation.org for updates, online donations and events.
